MObile clinic

The Health Equality and Linkage Project (H.E.L.P.) Medical Van was began with the goal of allowing TBSM to provide our services to patients in some of the Tampa Bay Area’s most underserved communities. This project started in 2017 in partnership with the Pioneer Medial Group Foundation with the sole purpose of expanding free and affordable healthcare to the underprivileged of Hillsborough, Pasco, and Pinellas counties.  TBSM has since established relationship with clinical locations across these counties, allowing us to host our clinics indoors at the University Mall, Advent Health Zephyrhills, Salvation Army, and many other locations around the Bay area.

IDEA EXCHANGE

The Medical Van is now the site for IDEA Exchange Tampa, Florida’s second syringe service program.  The goal of the program is to reduce negative public health outcomes associated with the use of injection drugs.  Participants are able to exchange used syringes for clean syringes and sterile injection supplies, are provided with Narcan and taught how to use it to reduce an overdose, are offered free anonymous HIV and Hep C testing, and have the opportunity to be connected with treatment for addiction.  In addition to supplies, the program provides education and connection to resources.  It also allows us to gather data and learn more about addiction and injection drug use. In the first 6 months of operation, IDEA Exchange has enrolled over 160 participants, exchanged over 18,000 needles, and had more than 200 reported overdose reversals with the Narcan distributed at the Exchange.
